Presentation

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is proving to be a disruptive technology with huge potential in the healthcare sector.

So why hasn't it been integrated globally in hospitals? There are several barriers to its integration in the healthcare sector, such as the lack of knowledge and skills on the use of the technology and the related organizational models. This course aims to favor its integration through healthcare professionals working in hospitals (physicians, surgeons, biotechnologists, ...) and engineering students with a future in the healthcare sector.

Objectives

  • To know the additive manufacturing technologies, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the existing equipment on the market and the necessary facilities for each of them.
  • To know the opportunities for the use of additive manufacturing in their daily work, based on the possibilities of synergy between material and technology to produce phantoms, models, fabrics, orthoses, etc.
  • To know the most suitable technologies to be acquired and installed in the future additive manufacturing laboratories of a hospital, according to their real needs, the main uses identified (to avoid initial investment losses based on wrong decisions).

Addressed to

  • Healthcare professionals working in hospitals (physicians, surgeons, biotechnologists, ...) and engineering students with a future in the healthcare sector.
